"Duty calls on lovers."

We promised love forever
When today was all we hoped for.
Never planned for times like some might do
And I said I’d never leave you,
But the tides of time and winds of war
Combined a storm to breach our doors
And you could understand my leaving,
Duty calls on lovers.

When the sun comes up with the morning dew
I will still be there beside you.
Though your heart feels cold as the time wears on
I will hold your love until time itself is gone

In lands where schools books taught me,
Days were filled with sun and pleasure.
The heat of day can chill my bones
I live with dreams of you and home.
When the sun goes down we count our dead
Each face a comrade’s empty bed
And letters home to loved ones
Burn into the flimsy paper.

When the sun comes up with the morning dew
I will still be there beside you.
Though your heart feels cold as the time wears on
I will hold your love until time itself is gone

I can see your smile as I watch the sun-set
Through these hell-fires burning.
How clearly now I hear your voice
Above all this crazy noise.
I said I’d make it to the end
Whatever that might be.
And I might just make it through this night
If you will pray for me.

When the sun comes up with the morning dew,
I will still be there beside you.
Though your heart feels cold as the time wears on,
I will hold your love until time itself is gone.
