"Winter's Breath"

As winter breathes its last farewell
With chilling touch, its icy hand
Steals out to clasp the early buds
As if by some strange, gross command
To leave them stunted, not quite green,
To greet the first moist warmth of spring.
Nature is a woman and I am just a man,
How could I ever hope to understand
Her moods.

Just so, you leave me as you go
With memories of times we had.
Albeit faded at the edges,
Even so, they still make me sad.
Our last goodbye, too short it seems
For all this waste of childish dreams.
You are all woman and I am just a man,
How could I ever hope to understand
Your moods.

Should someone ask now why I write
So many lines to love these days;
I couldn’t answer save, 'Love shows itself
In many different ways.'
I touched your warmth; you left so cold
But still love grows,… so I’ve been told.
You are all woman and I am just a man,
How could I ever hope to understand
Your moods,…
You are all woman and I am just a man,
How could I ever hope to understand
Your moods.
